Green Households Initiatives (GHI) is a Non-Governmental Organization working with local communities and learning institutions in the Republic of Kenya.

About GHI

The organization has been operating since 2006 but was officially registered in January 2012.

GHI is managed and gets advice from a team of professionals, who also double as the  Board of Governance for the organization.

Green Households Initiatives innovatively creates diverse mechanisms to address and facilitate sustainable rural livelihoods through developing community driven initiatives which guarantee environmental integrity

The organization currently operates in Kenya_ Africa and plans to replicate the initiated projects activities to other areas of Africa with time. GHI works with the youth, women, and learning institutions in its projects implementation. Private sector partnerships, networking with donor agencies and seeking the Government support has helped the organization to achieve its core objectives.

Green Households Initiative (GHI) works with rural communities to facilitate sustainable rural livelihoods and provide equal opportunities through developing community driven initiatives which guarantee environmental integrity.
Community driven initiatives are cast on the fact that given the appropriate technical (guidance, access to information and training) and financial support vulnerable youth, women and men in the rural areas can effectively realize their hidden talents in reducing poverty levels related to food and energy; and create income generation activities while mitigating the causes and effects of climate change.
To enable rural communities attain sustainable development through facilitating access to clean energy, health and food security while mitigating the causes and effects of climate change.
Empowering the rural communities and learning institutions to attain sustainable rural livelihoods and access to education for ALL.

Sustainablerural livelihoods and equal education opportunities for ALL

GHI has constituted a Board which comprises of a Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer. The Board has been mandated to admit up to 15 person’s membership.
The eligibility criteria for the membership have been explained in the NGO’s Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which was approved by the Kenya NGO Executive Board.
GHI has Chief Executive Officer, who doubles as the Secretary to the Board, and is responsible for the day‐to‐day affairs of the Organization.
Currently, the organization does not have permanent employees and maintains a seasonal employment pattern depending on the projects at hand. The situation is expected to improve as the organization gets more projects to implement (please see detailed information on Governance separately).
